DISCUSSION Custom Rockford Map for Chronet

    Hey all!
    First and foremost I would like to say a few things before we get into the details. Chronet is and has been a very special place for quite a few of us, it is quite rare that you will find a gaming community such as what we have here. I have personally spent a good part of seven years of my life dedicated to what has flourished into the Chronet of today. I'm sure that the majority of us can happily say that we are all very prideful to admit that as a community we pride our self on how unique we are, so with that said I'd like to thank you all for being a part of something very memorable for me.

    It's no secret that in the past we had a custom version of RP_Downtown tailor made for the community by @Cookie Monster which lead to the map that we all now known as EvilMelon, it took many revisions and derivations before it had reached the final version, now I can for a fact that this is no simple task to achieve.

    I'd like the achieve the same result and success that Cookie had for us with Downtown but instead with Rockford, again this will be no easy feat, It is going to take a lot of time and effort in order for this plan to work and hopefully succeed, the only catch is that I would much rather do this with the input from the community over going in so blindly and hoping for the best, recently I've managed to compile the map and have started with some general fixes to the map as a whole.

    Please do provide any input, suggestions and ideas that you may have in a reply to this thread, I would also very much appreciate if you can report glitches or bugs to also.

    Honestly, the only suggestion I can make is please get rid of the tower in the ERU building, or the ladder maybe? The only times I've ever been there are when people have committed suicide by jumping down/ thrown a baby down. I don't mind doing a little rp to stop a suicide, but there seems to nothing else happening with that tower. Actually, I think someone sniped out of it for a bit...

    Rockford is currently at the Source Engine's limit in regards to horizontal space, It's entirely possible to implement completely new areas of the map within vertical space, however that may just be an issue within itself as the VMF file is just bordering the stable limit for brushes which make up the primary geometry of the map alongside the entities limit capping out at over 200% of what would be a stable amount.

    • Make ravine into a river.
    • Invisible prop on the sign next to pd parking.
    • Barriers around ravine.
    These suggestions won't improve gameplay. They'll just reduce cancer a bit.

    Also outskirts are a bit empty, but I got no ideas.

    Too much incline for houses I think.
    If this does go through, maybe add a gas station at the top of the ravine. Just please make it a different brand than shell. Shell causes enough confusion. Texaco maybe.

    I would say that a lot of stuff is wanted, but there are a few that are needed.
    The one I would say is the most needed would be maybe to remove the ravine or put barricades around it.
    Another thing I would say is that we need more stuff on the outskirts. I would recommend maybe another 1 or 2 more houses and a motel or hotel. This also leaves opportunity for another job. Hotel/Motel Manager.
    But yeah, that is all the stuff I could think of on the spot. I will post anything else if I think of it.

    If you have vertical space make a sewer system.
    It can have manhole covers you can pickup to go down in it, they would be placed all over the city.
    Or maybe they could just be server props with a custom thing that when you pick up the manhole cover and move it after like 10 seconds it despawns the cover and puts it back.
    Maybe a drain pipe at the edge of the water near lake house where it empties into ocean

    • Remove ramp to suburbs, and convert the entire area of suburbs itself into a sloped area, like a hillside, leading up to the outskirts. I think some house structures on a hill might be nice.
    • Feel free to remove Club Catalyst if you need more resources for the map, as it's like... never used. Or if it ever is, it's improperly used.
    • Likewise, the underground parking lot is kinda useless.
    • Maybe extend the outskirts a little more in the direction of the ocean, extending the shoreline opposite from the cliffs to give it more of a bay feel to it. Possibly add a river running down that dip in the road in outskirts, near the whitehouse. This would enable for a boating NPC to be feasible, especially if the ravine is converted into some kind of river accessible from the ocean.
    Question: Are you able to add water at different levels on the map? I.E., could you place a small body of water independent from the ocean somewhere else, I.E. outside Mesa Apartments (In that empty area which would totally make an awesome pool)?

    -Put more stop signs at intersection go into high speed areas such as the suburbs and outskirts intersection
    -Put some homes on the other side of the ravine
    -Get rid of the parking lots, put something like a hotel in its place
    -Sewers is a great idea
    -Rename Mesa Apartments, Ghetto Apartments because in reality more crime seems to happen at Mesa than in ghetto ;)

    Regardless, I'm always down to open up the Club, but no one attends unless there are scantily clad pretties. No need to really remove it.

    There's a lot of problems with the current map. Here are the ones I feel should be fixed.

    • The signs are just low quality pictures. Perhaps you could replace the low quality picture signs with nice looking models instead.
    • The Police Department of Rockford in general needs to be fixed. The new police station is just a broken mess. The elevator is extremely buggy, rooms are too small and overall just a bad design. It would be nice to see a completely re-done police department.
      • Remove the useless rooms.
      • Remove the elevator and put the cells on the same floor as everything else.
      • Remove the fence around the PD.
        • Mainly because citizens can't park in a legal spot near the PD.
        • Perhaps make it like Rockford V1 where there was a small fenced area for spawning police vehicles.
    • Would like to be able to enter one of those skyscrapers you see on the map.
      • Could have rooms you could buy.
        • Such as apartments and offices.
    • The white house on outskirts really doesn't make sense to me. It's just full of tiny rooms and an extra useless bathroom. Maybe you could connect some of the rooms and remove one of the bathrooms.
    • The map is extremely laggy and poorly optimized. I have talked to you about this one before so I won't go into incredible detail.
    • Club Catalyst looks terrible to be honest. The interior is just full of couches and tables that nobody uses.
      • Either redesign or remove the club.
    • More open space should be added. I constantly find myself trying to find a nice and flat area to make RP events or buildings.
    • Either you or @Simple has to fix this. Most of the cars on Chronet have difficulties getting up these large ramps to get to sections of the map. Either remove these or Simple could fix vehicle speeds.
    • Remove the underground parking garage. It really serves no purpose. Perhaps you could replace it with a different building(s).
      • Such as a shop or another strip mall like the one near Taco Bell.
    • Fix the bank vault. If you can, please make the bank vault something people can actually enter. I'm tired of seeing it in the parking lot of the ERU station.
    • Make one of the lake houses look different. Don't you think it's kind of strange to see two houses that look exactly the same? Perhaps you could replace one of the lake houses with a different looking home.
    • Please remove some of the warehouses. There's just too many of them.
    • Remove the town hall elevator and replace it with stairs. It's very annoying to see cops using their battering rams to get themselves stuck in the elevator shaft.
    • Instead of having an empty space across the street from town hall, why not replace it with a parking lot or a building? It makes no sense to have an empty patch of concrete in the city without a purpose.
    • Some sort of underground area. On Evilmelon, I remember you could go into the underground area to buy illegals and such. Wouldn't mind to see something like that on Rockford.
    • This sort of ties with what I just said before this. Adding some sort of public transportation. Like a subway station in the underground area.

    This is all I can think of right now. I will add on to this list if I think of anything else.
