In real life, you would have to pay to advertise something, so, it only makes sense if we made the player spend $50 or $100 to do an advert.
It may also prevent failverts in a small way. Not sure though.

This has been suggested many times before and I still want it to be added. I'm not sure why it hasn't been added yet.

I don't like it. It's a heavy tax on new players opening store and selling wares and doesn't hurt the rich players who can afford adverts without care.

If it is just $50 for an advert, it is not bad for new players at all.

    Oh it has, sorry.
Although I guess it kind of revived the question if you could say that.

Remember, new players have a lot less money than long time players. $50 isn't much, but it means that trying to advert items for sale or store to go to would be very difficult to do without cutting heavily into profit.

I think it would be better to limit advert to once every minute. Then put in billboards around town that people can pay to advertise on. Maybe they pay a fee and own it till they log off, but make the fee something big like 1-2k.

However new players do start out with 20k and get a salary so.. Your point?

So my point is that a new player only selling a couple cheap items will find it difficult to maintain any sort of decent profit margin

Not entirely, that's the perfect excuse to charge more. Companies do it all the time.

Yes but sadly ingame economies tend to function poorly due to the lack of substance in the currency. Prices tend to be extremely elastic (this means that a change in price has a disproportionate effect on demand), as people tend to flat out refuse to pay a price different than the status quo.

This isn't to say that prices can't be adjusted at all, but you can't expect new or broke players to be able to do that while competing with veteran players with loads of cash that don't mind a smaller margin since they can produce and sell in far greater numbers.
